Seriously, Nail Polish?

Lately I've had run ins with men commenting on my nail polish. It was a different color every time, but I found it strange. One, a co-worker, said, "That's really silver." I didn't know what to say to that, so I responded with, "Why yes it is. How very astute. Now I see why you've been with the company for 11 years." Another was a man I met on the beach who was hitting on me, and pointed out that my nail polish was chipping. He said it in a way that implied he thought I should fix that. And the last was an ex I had dinner with, who said he didn't like the color I was wearing.

WTF? Since when do men care about nail polish? And if silver is so offending, what color do you want us to wear?! Does it really matter?
