why did he come back ?

why do men ask to be back with you if their not gonna do the right thing ? my b/f asked to be back with me cuz he claims he loves me,im sure hes lying.he has not been a good guy since he came back and i really need someone to help me understand why would he come back just to mess up when he could have just went on with his life and be with someone else??
