I think no matter how "nice" we try and raise our children we believe that society and its effects will teach them to be otherwise. We as women have been hurt by men and so we focus this energy on how we raise our sons.
It is true that women don't want a guy that is 100% nice all the time since that, i'm sorry to say, gets boring and you need some spice in any relationship to keep it on its toes.
The truth is we don't want a complete jerk either and so a 50/50 blend is ideal so long as the man is a reasonable, confident yet an overall caring person.
Now as for the question regarding prostate vs. breast cancer, I think this issue revolves around what is heard about more often rather than statistics. Women like to talk. And if they have breast cancer many people will hear about it. Men on the other hand tend to keep these matters to themselves. So society thinks it doesn't happen as much. Both issues are of equal prominance, but you men need to make your voices heard. Good luck.
