A Thinker (Female, Los Angeles, 22-25, Other Profession) asked:

Any perfectionists out there? Are your gf's perfect? How are you appeased? What do you expect from a girl that you are dating? What is your advice to someone else who is dating a perfectionist? This question can also pertain to those dating perfectionists, themselves. Thanks for the advice!

one advice I can give you is that if you're dating a perfectionist: don't insult, don't criticize, think twice before you say something, and support him with pretty much everything. I guess that's more than one thing.

My dad is one. My mom puts up with him just like that. When she criticizes him, he gets pissed off and closes himself inside himself for weeks. I hope that helps. If you need something more particular... drop me a line

I don't consider myself a perfectionist, but all of the tests and all of my friends disagree with me. (I just like things right and if it means I have to do it then so be it) None of the women that I have dated have been perfect. No one really is. I mean, I am fairly successful and reasonably good looking. My personality got me farther than looks or business. I think that if you can be a perfectionist and realize that you are indeed NOT perfect, then you will learn more in life. The only thing that I have ever expected out of any woman I have dated (heck, any person for that matter) is that they be themselves.

My advice to someone who is dating a perfectionist and isn't one themselves, is to figure out what you want out of life. Work on pleasing you first, then try to please others. The day you change (change is different than compromise) for someone else, is the day you become their slave. I do not mean the trivial things like placing your napkin on the proper leg, or remembering to put the toliet seat down. I mean big stuff. Whatever is big for you. It is different for everyone. That is it in a nutshell.
