Me and my girlfriend have been dating fo... / 8:54 PM - Thursday November 13, 2003
A Mr. Nice Guy (Male, Indianapolis, 18-21, Student) asked:

Me and my girlfriend have been dating for near 11 months now. It's a long distance relationship since we both study at diff colleges in the States. Fortunately, I'll be able to spend our 11th month anniversary together, and I wanna get her something special. Then again, I'm an idiot at buying stuff for anyone except myself and given the fact that i'll miss our 1st year anniversary, I desperately want this gift to be something she'll remember. Also, I AM in college - hence, budget is super-low!(since most of money is being spent on flying to see her)
Can you give me some nice ideas for a gift? I was thinking of something ring-like - but I can't have it mean that I want to marry her (and freak her out!!)...aaggh..I'm going mad..PLEASE HELP LADIES !

Diamond ring = marriage... any other type is fine. I suggest though that you make up a little book with reasons that you love her. Everything that makes her, her are the reasons you want her in your life. That will really show you care.

First, you get MAD kudos both for staying in a relationship for so long and for being so concerned about seeing your girlfriend and making the 11-month anniversary special. You rock. She's a lucky gal.

Having recently graduated, I remember the days of pizza & Kool-Aid. And having been in a relationship for three-and-a-half years, I cherish those early milestones. Depending on her personality, your girl might just flip for a sappy homemade card. I wouldn't go so far as to get a ring, because (again, depending on her personality) it might freak her out. Does she have a favorite band? Find a greatest hits CD or their latest release. Hmm . . . modest flowers are also nice. Anything that's sincere and not too over-the-top will probably go over well, because she will see that you care and that you took the time to get something special. Talk to her friends or even her parents to find out if there's anything in particular she's been hinting at. And enjoy your anniversary.

Congratulations!

If you want to get her a ring use her birthstone, its thoughtful, and she won't take it as a proposal. Also bracelets and stuff work too, to do lotions, and stuff.

You could make her something that she will use or look at almost everyday. I made my boyfriend a giant etch-a-sketch out of cardboard for Valentine's Day last year. I printed out photos in black & white of the two of us to be placed in the window; he could choose which picture he wanted to put in the etch-a-sketch frame from the bunch i printed. i also wrote a short message in the back.

side note...if she's a jewelry kind of girl i would either get her a necklace or earrings (find out two things if you don't already know: if she prefers silver or gold and if she has pierced ears or not)

i hope that was helpful. good luck!

Although jewelry always works, it is expensive and impersonal. Women appreciate things that are personal, like something that reminds her of how you met or something she mentioned to you once. Or you could make her dinner (if that is possible - I can't!). Accompany any gift with a note or card.
