Why cant I smoke after having a tooth removed?

Is it the smoke part that hurts the area or just the sucking part!
***Thanks**

The whole is packed and contains a protective saliva, smoking may suck that out, leaving it dry and possibly get infected.

Maybe ask the dentist how long you need to leave it before smoking. That's what I did. And I'm also not feeling that patronising comment about quitting from the fella who can't punctuate.

Its the smoke part,it can cause an infection.. I used to smoke so I am talking from real experience, and the infection is 100 times more painful than the toothache.. if you can, try and not smoke for a while.....

You don't want to do this. I did. I had teeth removed and felt good so I went to a party and smoked and drank thru a straw... even though my dentist told me not to. I was back in her office the next morning as an emergency patient and she had to scrap the hole where the tooth was so it would bleed again to start the healing process over. What was painful.

The sucking makes it bleed more. The smoke will cause pain on an open raw wound.
