Is it right to send our young men and women to fight and die for our freedoms?

Is it right to send our young men and women to fight and die for our freedoms?

It seems like every generation we come up with a definition of what is presenting a danger to our freedoms. We call on our young to fight for our perceived freedoms and to vanquish threats to them.

But, yet those very same die and or are maimed for their entire lives and we utter a few platitudes a couple of times a year. If our rights and freedoms are so precious why don't we just fight for them ourselves? What makes us so precious and not they?

We sit back here and work our jobs and when they come home they are jobless. Kind of screwed up don't ya think.

Should we even fight at all or show the world an example by laying down our swords?

We need to show the world an example by getting rid of the psychopaths running our country and sending us to useless contrived wars.

Before I say anything -let it be known that I am NOT demonizing the military:

If they're supposedly fighting for our freedoms; then why do we have the patriot act and the ndaa? If anything, we're losing our freedoms here at home while our service men & women are risking their lives over WHAT?

Just my opinion.. I think that "Laying down our swords" is both foolhardy and dangerous. As for sending our young, the older we get the less likely we are to join the fray. I have proposed for many years that the leaders of each country choose the individual weapon of their choice and fight it out two out of three falls. Modern weapons are not permitted.

sorry if this seems harsh, but they choose to join the military now days. They get preference for jobs before me, and if you don't think so, fill out an application. Has the draft been re-instated? I think people owning guns says they will fight for their rights, doesn't it?

My brother shot a man for breakin in at 3am
No time for questions, he was just protectin his family
That thief picked the wrong street
Some may not agree and that's their right, but I believe
In what was written, and what was given
A long time ago, for those who wanna know

Am I proud of where I'm from
How I was raised my daddy's ways in this country that I love
Am I proud that all I see
Is black and white, wrong or right, and there ain't no changin me
Am I proud of where I stand
Damn right I am!

At the airport today I met a soldier on his way
Back home to Denver, he had just been injured
Defendin me, talked a while and told him he
Was in my prayers, and I thought right then and there

spongecake,

It s people like you who Take all the fun outta being a American ... if all of you have such problem with the way this country is being run ........ Then there is a solution , Move to a different country , There's lots and i am sure they would love to have you . as for the jerks that are in this office right now . i cant say i agree with them . but i like our history .. and culture .... from yanks . down to good ole Dixie ... and frankly .. I am proud of my best friend , my nieces , and my dad and my grandfather , and about 20 of my cousins , and there proud of what there doing and did for this country. you wanna go fight for your freedom be my guest . ill support you as well . but dont sit there and pretend that , the only reason why this site , and why we aren't speaking Japanese right now , isn't because of our troops. out there dying for something they should be proud of . which gives you the right to sit and wine about why we shouldn't let them fight . They know what there sighing up for . and why .

No hate or judgement ,
"If you want peace prepare for war" , that saying holds true always .
I would love to live in a world without war . but that not who I am . I know that you have get you hands dirty sometimes to get the job done . Call me whatever you want.

Much respect

On the one hand, the US does send young men and women to fight and die but on the other hand, there is no draft.

Those young recruits AND those experienced, trained, older NCOs and Officers are all volunteers and they know what they are getting into.

There hasn't been a draft since the early 70s and those who volunteer today aren't the, "ignorant sheep", with no other options that many like to think they are.

It's more difficult to get into the military today than it ever has been.
Even the Army - sorry, but it's true - has higher standards.

The military of today is more advanced, better trained and better educated than any military in the past...with all due respect.

It's true that only about 3% of the US population makes up our volunteers and the US military has never consisted of more than about 7% females.

Today, unlike in the past, 98% of ENLISTED recruits who are accepted into the military have AT LEAST a HS degree and/or some college or tech/trade school experience.

You also have to consider that many young people who are accepted into the enlisted ranks today are all kinds of smart in regard to technology. That helps.

Many of these young people have a serious desire to LEARN and succeed and they have skills their parents don't possess.

Do you know how many parents and grandparents I know who have problems with their computers and ask their kids or grandkids to help them or, "fix it? "
It's a lot.

I'm not laying down my sword or my guns, jets, ships, tanks, troops, etc. because we are under attack.

One can believe all they want that we should all just get along and hold hands and sing, "Kum ba yah", and pass a bowl but the fact is...

There are some nasty, evil, hatin', m'therf****in' people out there who want to kill us all and who threaten our way of life and the way of life of our allies and they don't give a flying f**k if you are a woman, an old person, an invalid, a child, a baby, a HS or college student, a civilian...they don't care and all I'm asking is that the majority of the US population just appreciate their military volunteers because if they DIDN'T VOLUNTEER, many of you would be drafted and many of you would never make it.

A Great theory on show the world and example by laying down our swords..I choose not to lay down anything and walk to my death..I understand and appreciate what my three brothers..my Father..Uncles..when I visit my Grandfathers graves that left their families and fought in the Revolutionary War and later Wars..Something interesting to think about..After Pearl Harbor high ranking Japanese officiers were interviewed and asked why did you not invade the main land of the US and their answer was because we knew that the American Citizens non military would fight to the finish.. Yes I would love Peace in our World and for Us all to live in Happiness..but unfortunately not everyone out there by example or not does not feel the same.. ;.]

Yes, it is people off to defend our liberties, but it is not right to send them off to war because some stupid politicians want to feel important. Unfortunately, the U.S.A. has done a lot more of the latter than the former in the last several decades.

Don't worry, soon we won't have to send them off to die, they'll be able to do it right here in this country. War will come here sooner than you think.

Dear William, no, it is not fair! When they come home, as you very well said, they have no jobs. They are soldiers who fight
to protect their buddies, not the cause of the war!
