what do I do with used comforters and pillows I don't want anymore?

I dont' want to throw it in the garbage (bad for the environment).
I don't want to donate something that we used to sleep on etc.
I've put a couple in my car trunk for just in case I need one in a park on a summer night or something *wink wink.

what do you do with these?

Update: December 21, 2011.
thank you everyone. They are washed and clean and will be donating them this week to the Goodwill Store and to the Humane Society along with a whole bunch of other clothes and stuff.

Call an animal shelter in your area and see if they can use them. Our local Humane Society is always asking for us to donate them our (clean) used blankets, sheets and pillows, to put in the kennels for the animals.

I did almost exactly what your thoughts were, and perhaps followed suit....

I took boxes of old and new clothing, as well as throw pillows and comforters that were stored up in the attic, and gave them willingly to the Salvation Army. They in turn, gave me a receipt with an estimated cost, so I can deduct the contributions on my 2011 tax return. It's a win-win situation for all!

I also keep a couple of throw pillows in the back seats of my truck and my coupe, just in case my passengers or myself, grow tired and wish to take a nap....

I like giving up things I have plenty of. It not only frees up much needed space at home, but it's a good feeling that your donations are going to a worthy cause.

Merry Christmas!

I put them out on the corner. Some scavenger eventually picks it up.

I once set out a rollie chair and a broken speaker. I'm walking down the street a few hour later, and see a homeless guy rolling in the chair holding the speaker on his lap. I tell him the speaker doesn't work. He looked at me like I was nuts.

Actually we recently gave a friend our old sofa bed and I gave him some pillows and blankets that we cleaned and he was very grateful. I think what you are doing is good too!

you can always put them in a clothing drop for good will or what ever charity takes them. most of the clothes that go into clothing drops don't get used for clothes any more but get cut down and and bleached and resold as rags. which the proceeds go to charity.

Any of the Dog shelters can use them. The animals always need a warm blanket to lay on and they get use up quickly.
