write down everything you put in your mouth including water so you might want to keep a note book handy....you can organize it later.

Make sure you have plenty of paper in case you overeat.

Food journals are a great way to monitor your weight loss if that is what you are trying to do. You should write down (obviously) the day and then times that you are eating, what you are eating, and the amounts of food. For example, at 1:15pm you had three handfuls of potatoe chips. You can go back later and figure out what that serving size actually is and how many calories it is. You also have to include beverages too, remember they affect your diet just like food. Food recall is very difficult, so as soon as you have a moment to write things down, do it, try to keep the journal handy. I would suggest trying it for five days, just to get an idea of the times you are eating and what you are eating. It will bring into perspective times that dont realize you are overeating, or how many calories you actually consume (or in some cases under-consume) in a day. That is exhausting! I use to do that alot count calories but if it helps you do it
