When planting a small fruit tree orchard, should rows run north-south or east-west?My location has either choice available. What's the advantage to each way? - Asked by beachinbeachboy, A Jock, Male, 36-45, Pittsburgh, Consulting |

My vote would be on the diaginol -- that's how I have my garden and orchard planted ---

north south. the transit of the sun will bring equal (+/-) amount of light to both sides of the plant. be sure that your are spacing them out correctly to allow for full branch distribution as they age... unless you are looking to grow them into a fairly compact hedge.

I would probably go east and west....but I don't know for sure.I know that the sun(south) is strongest,so if they require that then that may be the choice.
