What's up with feminine male singing?

I've never been able to get into male singers that sing like chicks. Whether it's in modern rock like Yellowcard, or in country like Rascal Flatts...whiny dude singers just irritate me.

To me men are supposed to sound like Frank Sinatra, Huey Lewis, Seal, Sting, Barry, smooth voices.

Update: February 27, 2010.
Michael Jackson and Prince are exceptions because they're legends. Some guys can pull off the high notes and make it look cool. There's just very few of them.

I totally agree! I don't like tiny whiney voices!

Seal doesn't sing like a man. I'm not saying he's a bad singer. I'm just saying that a lot of times he sounds like he's been kicked in the nuts one too many times. You really can't put him in the same category as Frank Sinatra and Barry White (not in terms of musical talent, in terms of vocal tonality).

Sorry but I will defend Prince and his "Little Red Corvette" as one of the best entertainers ever, girly voice and all! LOL

Yes entirely. Men singers should sound like Johnny Cash, etc.

I'll second that.

I like a deeper and, sometimes, more gravely, "whiskey" voice in a male singer BUT I also like Pink and her voice is rather gravely and deep too.
I think that's the reason that I'm the only person on A/O who doesn't hate Nickelback. The lead singer's voice is definitely not girly.

I never really understood that myself, but I still like the Bee Gees. LOL
