If you wanted to leave the US because of your feelings about the way the government was running ... the country, where do you think you could find a better place to live??? WHY??? - Asked by barbb, A Thinker, Female, Who Cares?, Who Cares? |

I often hear people talking about how much better some vague European countries do things than they do here. For example, people say they are more energy conscious in "Europe." I also often hear about the good 'ole days, which is always some other time than now. Did you know that there is some ancient Chinese proverb about children being more mindful of their elders back in the good ole days? My point is that there is no better time or place elsewhere. All the times and places have their own drawbacks and advantages. Consider this: if you actually lived in "Europe" or in some olden days you would be talking about how great it is in vague Asian countries or in the U.S. or elsewhere; if you lived four decades ago you might be talking about some other previous olden days four decades prior to that.

I would never want to leave the US, but if I had to leave ... I might move to Canada. My Mom was Canadian, so I already have some roots there. I hear they have a great healthcare system too. Not sure if the country in general is "better" (I know the people are great), but I think it could work for me.

I will move to the Philippines in a couple of years, not so much because I am pissed at the gov as I need to find a cheaper place to retire. And s/o won't move here. I can watch from over there as our gov does one more ignorant move after another.

I'm not an American, but have thought long and hard about where I'd go if my country became too tyrannical. I think the answer would be one of the future superpowers, because they have enough money for there to be jobs for skilled people and yet are not rich enough to waste money on all the crazy surveillance technology that's the bane of my existence. Probably India or Brazil, therefore. English is one of the official languages in India, but if I went to live there permanently, I'd need to learn Hindi as well, and I think it would be easier to learn Portuguese than Hindi because of the link with Latin, which I studied at school.
