What do you think about this?

I'm doing a reaction paper for my psychology class and I came upon this article that say that "therapy plus Zoloft helps kids' anxiety." What are your thoughts about this?

If children do not learn to handle anxiety issues at a young age, then how do they handle adult situations, such as bills, the IRS, traffic when driving, their own kids, etc? Of course there may be exceptions to giving children therapy and drugs, but that would be it, the exception, not the rule. I don't get chemotherapy for cancer, because I don't have cancer. Anxiety exists in everyone living. It can't be "cured", it has to be "handled" and we all do it in different ways. Me? hell, I have a 40 caliber Beretta pistol, I don't need drugs.

I personally think that people are relying so heavily on drugs today and its just an easy 'solution' if you will. I went to the doc because I was having trouble breathing and they told me I had anxiety and gave me some pills and sent me home... I never took them and I am fine... its really about being able to find what the trigger is and learning to try and calm yourself. Do I still have anxiety? yeah, but it comes and goes and certain things tend to bother me more, but I'm not going to take drugs and tell the world I have anxiety.

I have a friend however that found out her bf had depression and anxiety and suddenly she said she had anxiety and went to the doctor and she depression/anxiety pills... and she was proud of herself let me tell you. Ya know and the funny thing is that you can tell a doctor anything and its pretty much a sure thing you will end up with some sort of medication.

We rely too heavily on pills instead of learning natural healing for some things and if we just drug up kids then we are doing no good for them.

Read about "Indigo Children". Too many of today's kids are being treated with drugs, when it's the adults who need a reality adjustment.

kids shouldn't be taking such a powerful drug.

i don't believe that zoloft is in any way good for kids. there has been great concern about adult anti-depressants used in child/teen therapy. i would be very concerned about it, and would research it extensively online, including going directly to the mfg.'s website for their recommendations.

Absolutely NOT! The last things children need are more drugs. They need to learn HOW to handle stress at a young age so they can be equipped to handle it as they get older because life is only going to get harder! The medical establishment needs to stop overmedicating children just to make a buck.
