What they said is not true, they only say that to YOU!

Just kidding. It has to do with locations. Try another rental company, their policy may differ than the one you went to.

Same reason a guy's car insurance drops when he turns 25. Apparently their risk tables indicate that A) a guy wakes up on the day of his 25th birthday and magically becomes a mature responsible person, and B) there's no possible way he could have been mature or responsible the day before.

I think it would be best to ask them

and to try another company

I am curious if the have different regulations for females

you should ask a female friend to call them also.

I think there are different rules for different companies. Perhaps they think that people 25 and under are not mature enough or cannot handle the financial responsibility of having a rental vehicle. I personally think it should be 21. Did you ask the rental company why?

I think it has something to do with the rental company's liability insurance. Under 25 is statistically more like to have an accident. I know my insurance went way down this year (I turned 25). It used to be that you couldn't ever rent under 25 but if you shop around, some companies will let you but you have to pay a small fortune for the privilege.

Their liability and insurance costs go up when renting to under 25-year olds.

Thrift, Alamo and Dollar will rent to your age, though.

Statistically, drivers under the age of 25 are more accident prone - that's why your car insurance costs more than someone OVER the age of 25.

I used to own rental property in Florida, and the city required short term renters (vacationers) to be 25 or older for a similar reason - renters under 25 were more more to drink alcohol, get out of hand, and destroy property.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's b/c most insurance companies regard drivers 25 and over an "experienced driver." Because of this, insurance rates drop, dramatically after the age of 25 -- providing that you got your licence between the ages of 16-19 -- (approx. age.). Take care...

its probably a liability thing with the Insurance companies

It's not the car rentals fault, blame the insurance companies. The cut off line for insurance companies is at 25. The insurance rate literally doubles or triples to the car rental company if they rent cars to those under 25. It's just another way for insurance companies to avoid paying out claims so their fat cats get fatter. You ask what's logical about this well statistically the under 25 age groups has a much higher accident rate. (insurance companies study this much more than even the government!!!)

The car rental company is running a business and find from experience that a lot of young drivers are idiots

- Response by duggers, A Guy Critical, Male, 66 or older

It's because of the risk of accidents. The highest risk group is 16-24, so most rental companies won't rent to anyone under 25 in order to keep their insurance rates down.

I am not sure what the reason is, but the minimum age of 25 has been the 'rule' for quite a long time already.
And the rental companies want you to have a credit card as well.

If you plan on shopping around for car insurance, make sure you include AllState in your search ... I personally got a good rate from them, not to mention they are a well-known company.

Basically the answer is some young people do really STUPID shiznit with rental cars. Like tear them up ya know? Throw it in reverse while driving forward or run over stuff they know they shouldn't run over. Plus some drive like bats outta hell so they are bad risks.

Yes they don't want to take the risk for men under 25 since insurance rates and accident rates are highest for them.

Insurance regulations... people under 25 are more likely to have accidents than those over 25. Sorry!

I believe it has to do with insurance.I know for a male once you turn 25 and have a good driving record your insurance goes down. But until then you are to big of a risk. :)

I believe it's because the same reason they charge people under 25 higher insurance rates... They tend to get in more accidents. You sound quite responsible but.... Unfortunately you're being lumped together with all the other irresponsible drivers in your age group.

I had the same problems until I turend 25 and apparently its because insurance companies feel that after 25 people become more 'responsible' at driving or something...maybe try a different rental company or something so that you don't have to deal with this problem...it sucks when insurance companies 'assume' that just because a person is under 25, they don't know how to drive repsonsibly...:D
