The signs of being a drunk include, but are not limited to,: missing work because you'd rather be drinking; using alcohol to 'numb' the pain of dealing with everyday stresses; choosing alcohol over anything else and/or focusing all your attention on alcohol rather than anything else in your life...from what it sounds like, you don't have a problem with alcohol but you are using it to deal with the family dramas that you experience and instead of just talking to your family when/if they get you angry/hurt you, you are using alcohol as a crutch to talk about the things that bother you...if you were drinking everyday and not 'functioning' normally, then alcohol would/could be a problem but in this case, I would say it's the thing you reach for when/if you are stressed out by your family...:D

Just remember NEVER EVER text or call when drinking!!! You will only say stupid shit. It does not mean you are a drunk. If I have a bad day at work I enjoy coming home and having a few beers. It relaxes me and takes the edge off the problem. It never makes the problem go away, but for a short evening I can be happy and not think about work or men...etc. So I think you are ok.

You don't have to drink everyday to be an alcoholic. If you drink til your stupid drunk everytime there's a little drama then you have a problem.
