should abortion be covered in the Health Care Bill???

This is not not a reflection of my opinion. Its just a question that I am very interested to know what people feel and think, especially women

argie

have a good day folks,

Update: November 21, 2009.
Since I got so many answers about the Health Care/Abortion issue, I will give you my opinion: 1)I would not myself have an abortion had I been in the reproductive stage of my life. 2) If my life was in danger I definitely would because I think there is always a second chance to have a baby. 3) If the woman is a victim of rape I definitely think that the Medical Insurance companies should cover the cost of abortion. The victim doesn't need to worry about who in the name of God is going to pay for the procedure after having gone thry such a traumatic event. But Medical Ins. companies don't really give a damn about the patient, any patient, no matter what circumstances they are in. They are known for being ruthless and please don't say that I don't know what I am talking about because I have been in the medical field as a SW and I have seen enough tragedies. Again, thank you all for your answers. have a good day folks, argie

Thank you for all your answers in re to *Health Care/abortion covered*. My opinion is irrelevant since I just compared men vs women's opinions. Thanks again!

This topic has always been difficult for me as I would like to see women choose other alternatives than abortion. Yet, I would rather see one who chooses abortion be able to go to a medical professional then a butcher in an alley or worse try to end it themselves. I would have to vote yes on this one. Rosey

I think that if a woman is in a situation where she can't afford an abortion there should be a way for the cost to be covered. I don't think its right for a woman to bring a child into this world when she can't afford to support it and when there are already unwanted children up for adoption

In Britiain you can get one on the NHS if you can convince two doctors that this is the right course of action, In other words something wrong with the baby or you etc... otherwise, you go private and pay for it..

Nope, it is an elective procedure, birth control should be covered

No, to me that should be considered an elective procedure. Next they will pay for plastic surgery.

My opinion: I thoroughly dislike abortion. However, I would never take away the right to choose. But since most abortions, I believe, are voluntary, are by choice, I would not want to pay my tax dollars to pay for them. Let those with the accidental, unwanted pregnancies pay for them themselves at the time they make this choice.

last time i checked this wasnt free health care its just an affordable health care plan. So if the person, i mean woman, is paying for the plan than yes abortions should be covered.

Regardless of how you feel about abortion, all of us need our procedures covered. No one should pick and choose what is and what is not. For those who said it is an elective procedure, there are cases where the mother will die if it is not done. If the mother has cancer or HIV or the child will be born with handicaps that would be devistating, how can you call it elective. It is not for me or anyone to say what treatments or procedures should be done. It's a very personal choice. A nose job, a boob job, a tummy tuck...cosmetic isssues are elective. Nothing else in any catagory is reasonably open for debate.

I think so since it is legal and a woman's right to choose that. They are not expensive and I"m sure you will get a lot of people saying if you do CHOOSE because you have the RIGHT to then you should PAY for it. Come one it is hard enough getting by as it is right now for everyone to bring another kid into the world when you can't afford and don' t have the means of raising it as it deserves then yes if you pay for insurance you should be able to have that covered also.

Only if continuing on with the pregnancy will endanger the life of either the mother or baby. :)

Assuming that the woman knew what she was doing when she became pregnant, then no, abortions shouldn't be covered just because the woman is having regrets after consenting to have sex. If she's so damned concerned about it being "her body" after the fact, maybe she should have thought about it being her body before the deed and before it involved an innocent life?

I don't "like" abortion.

But it is a medical procedure that is relevent. So...yeah it should be. God, I can't believe I typed that but it's a lesser evil. I'd rather have this available than face having girls and women getting shady abortions and an increase in poverty and homelessness (which is mostly children if you didn't know.)

I'd much rather have my tax dollars spent helping pay for an abortion than paying for a child for 18 years b/c its parents couldn't afford an abortion let alone the cost of raising a child.

I think, yes...because allot of woman have underlined issues that we can't possibly step nor walk into. I however think every woman should be a consider only by a case by case basis...between her doctors and her.
I think pizza, is an ass for calling them bitches, by the way. So, what does he call the baby and mother after their born and the mother has no money to pay for keeping them...basters, hoes with babies??? I think some of these right-winged-over the top-conservatives are the true assholes of why we have the the bad policies the way that we do....we need health-care for health not the few with warped ass views...this what we have a medical professionals for???
So, my answer is YES!!!!
with an added thought---
With preventive methods to, in place...I would like to have limited abortions as well.

No. That way we can have even more poor, uneducated mothers on welfare.

Do you see how insane the right really is?

By denying abortion coverage, they are creating more of the exact type of people they love to hate. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. They need their rage to survive.

- Response by vabyss, An Intellectual Guy, Male, 29-35, Who Cares?

Yes. It is a legal and often truly necessary medical procedure. It's not like getting a boob job.

- Response by pandorasfault, A Thinker, Female, 46-55, Teaching

Rating Received:

Yes, of course. Once that is done, make sure that our tax dollars go to teach children sex education in schools to prevent teenage pregnancy as well. So and it is a fact that if they learn other alternatives to safe sex, there will be less abortions and less unwanted babies born.

- Response by womanv, A Career Woman, Female, 29-35, New York, Self-Employed

Rating Received:

Yes, abortions should be covered because it is a legal procedure, it is covered under most health insurance plans now, and it is in many cases vital to a woman's health. The cases in which it would not be covered are the ones in which it is most often to be used to save the life of the mother. What's more, forcing women to pay out of pocket for the procedure would further limit access for the poor, meaning they would likely have to once again resort to "back alley" abortions, risking their lives and well being. Making certain medical procedures only available to the rich is a terrible form of discrimination that is already far too common in this country.

- Response by captainx, An Intellectual Guy, Male, 29-35, Washington, DC, Who Cares?

Rating Received:

Absolutely NOT! If women hate babies enough to chop them up and vacuum them out, then they shouldn't be having sex in the first place!

Besides, abortion arrangements will lead to the MANDATORY ABORTION of children with genetic defects, such as RP, Usher's, etc. It's all about EUGENICS, not "health."
