1 pound = 3500 calories

You'll have to burn 70,000 calories to lose 20 pounds.

If you are able to move more and eliminate calories that have no nutritional value you would be better off. At 64 you have less muscle mass also..thus part of your weight gain. Walking and some strength training with light weights would be great. Do it at least 4 times a week. And try to cut 200-300 calories a day. Across a year you should loose about 20 pounds.

Personally -- I shoot for 15.

under 1,500 calories each day
under 15 fat grams
under 1,500 mg sodium

Good luck! You may wish to consider adding working with some free weights at home, too, to help with oestoporisis. I love the muscle tone it gives me, too.

Reducing your intake or increasing your calorie burn rate by 500 calories per day should lead to a nice, steady loss of 1 - 2 lbs per week. Walking 2 miles a day is a great start. If you increase your activity level enough to burn an additional 100 calories per plus consume about 400 calories less per day than you currently do, you should see results soon. But don't consume less than 1200 calories a day. You need at least that much to get enough nutrition and keep your energy and metabolism up. 1200-1400 healthy calories a day plus 2 miles of walking and a little extra moving around should do the trick.

If you cut 300 calories from your intake a day you will loose one pound a week.
