Do you think it's ever ok to lie to protect someone's feelings?

If you believe honesty is always the best policy then that means absolutely no lying.

To me, honesty is the best policy most of the time not all the time. To me, lying is acceptable if it's small and insignificant such as when my grandmother asks me if I like her new hairstyle.

Lying is something people do to save their own ass and I don't consider trying to protect someone else's feelings as being remotely similar. As another poster pointed out, there is a difference between lying and simply being tactful.

Lying is NEVER NEVER NEVER acceptable. To avoid lying just dodge the question.

Even lying to children about Santa Claus is unacceptable.
