Birth Control Quandry

I recently (3 months ago) was made to switch from my previous brand of BC pills to a generic due to my insurance company's decision.

I've been on birth control for something like 6 years, and I've never had too much trouble with breakthrough bleeding, but now all of a sudden it's like my period is starting again in the second week of the pill cycle.

I called a nurse practitioner and asked if I needed to be worried. She told me to ride it out, and that things would be fine.

The one question she DIDNT answer was do I need a backup birth control method or not?!

She just said "Oh, I think everybody should use condoms!" Even SHE admitted that was a non-answer.

Before my boyfriend and I started sleeping together, I insisted that we both get tested and he agreed. We're both clean and monogamous, so STD's are not an issue here.

Condoms would be kind of a hassle for us. Neither one of us has huge amounts of cash to spare. Also, he's uncut and falls inbetween condom sizes. He's got a large enough girth that he needs magnums just to be able to put one on comfortably, but standard condoms would be able to handle his length.

If we need to use them, we will, but do you really think it's necessary? I've tried to figure it out on my own, and I don't want to make any big errors. I just also want to make sure our sex life is still enjoyable.

Thanks!

If you are consistently taking your pill within the 4 hour window of compliance... Like 22-26 hours between each, you should have no issues, even with the breakthrough... If you are even 5 minutes out of that window, use a back up...
