Out of place hyoid bone.

How does the chiropractor fix it? Does it hurt?

Update: August 18, 2009.
For those of you who dont know, the hyoid bone is the only bone in the body that is not articulated with any other bone. It is in your throat. Held in place by the thyroid ligamints

Never heard of a dislocated hyoid bone and I'm not entirely certain how one would come to acquire one or how you would fix it. Also not sure what the indication for fixing it would be as we usually reduce dislocations when they create a functional impairment and I'm not sure what the impairment would be.

For our friend who thinks that this a "crock", the bone he's referring to is the xiphoid bone or the xiphisternum.

What a crock!!! The hyoid is the tail piece to the breast bone in front of your heart. Unless it has been broken in the process of someone saving your life with chest compressions or the like, it is one solid piece with the breast bone. so, comeon. Some quack bone cracker is gonna move it around some??? I doubt it.

Chiropractors manipulate the muscles and bones to align the spine and control pain.

The chiropractor doesn't fix it. Chiropractors realign bones, but they don't work on muscles. It's the muscles that will hold the bone in the right position, and that's physio territory.
