Why do we moan during sex?

I know this is kind of a silly question but I've always thought about it. Why do we make all that noise during sex? It's so uncontrollable but why? Some people seem unaffected by it, especially men, it seems women are always much more vocal, why is that?! I know I can't help moaning and making noise even when I'm doin it solo so for me it's totally a natural, uncontrollable thing, anyone else have this experience or some thoughts?

Sound resonates through us and enhances tactile feeling. It also alters our breathing in ways that enhance the physical feelings of sex. Not all men are less vocal than us. Some are as uninhibited as some of us are. And if you think about it women are more vocal anyway.
If you don't think this is the reason than experiment. Say ahhhhh. Then make your body do that same breathing and stomach expulsion without the full sound. Now make another sound like oh.oh.oh.oh. See how your breath becomes short pants. This all alters your experience.

The same reason humans feel the need to vocalize during any other intense emotion e.g. anger, exhilaration, relief, sadness, hilarity, etc.
