Ok, one more concern resulting from this stupid wisdom tooth....

As I stated before I'm a little over 5 and 1/2 months pregnant. Due to the pain and infection in my wisdom tooth, the doctor put me on 5/325 (hydrocodone/acetaminop hen). I know he wouldn't prescribe me anything dangerous, and I asked the pharmacist and she said it should be fine, but vicodin is a narcotic and it still worries me a bit. I wouldn't take it, but the pain is so bad I was just crying all day and couldn't even eat. Plain tylenol did nothing, and neither did gargling with salt water, icepacks, or orajel. Has anyone else been prescribed this during pregnancy and if so, did your baby have any side effects from it?

i've developed a dry socket from my wisdom teeth extraction, and even the percaset didn't help. i was in MAJOR pain. so, even though you are OBVIOUSLY a wonderful mother in the making, there are times you must consider you own health, and this is one of them. its ok to take it hun when the pain is unbearable.

The pain killer he gave you is safe, if you take it to the times they say and not more often.

Here is what I just pulled up regarding this drug and pregnancy:

Can I Take Hydrocodone/APAP During Pregnancy?
Hydrocodone/APAP (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) is a prescription pain medication. It contains two different medications: hydrocodone bitartrate (a narcotic) and acetaminophen (Tylenol®, also known as APAP). Based on animal and limited human studies, the drug may not be safe for use during pregnancy.

Hydrocodone/APAP and Pregnancy Category C
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a category system to classify the possible risks to a fetus when a specific medicine is taken during pregnancy. Pregnancy Category C is given to medicines that have not been adequately studied in pregnant humans but that do appear to cause harm to the fetus in animal studies. Also, medicines that have not been studied in any pregnant women or animals are automatically given a pregnancy Category C rating.

The acetaminophen component of hydrocodone/APAP is usually considered safe for pregnant women (see Tylenol and Pregnancy). However, the hydrocodone component may not be safe. When given to pregnant hamsters, a single dose of hydrocodone increased the risk of birth defects, including cranial defects. Limited human studies also indicate that hydrocodone may increase the risk of similar birth defects in humans. Hydrocodone is a narcotic, and using this drug during the end of a pregnancy may cause narcotic withdrawal in the infant after delivery. Such withdrawal symptoms may include:

Hyperactive reflexes
Fast breathing
Increased stools
Sneezing
Irritability and excessive crying
Shakiness (tremors)
Yawning
Vomiting
Fever.

However, pregnancy Category C medicines, including hydrocodone/APAP, may be given to a pregnant woman if her healthcare provider believes that the benefits to the woman outweigh any possible risks to the unborn child.

I must have missed the 1st part of the question but, why not just have it pulled? I can understand not having it capped (financially expensive) but with insurance having it pulled would only cost about $50. Then the pain is gone forever without drugs.
