Those special pills...

Is it common for women to gain weight initially when they begin to take birth control pills? I, personally, am not on birth control, but am considering going on it as of late. Any suggestions for a specific brand or other methods of birth control?
(Minus a condom or diaphram, I know these methods already!)

Nuva ring- works great, you don't worry about it but once a month. It's not a barrier method, of course, so you still have to protect yourself from disease and infection- but for birth control it works well.
If you and your doctor think you are a good candidate.
Sometimes I've needed the ring and pills- at the same time, so see what works best for you.
Transdermal- Patches, creams, - OrthoEvra patch and the like.
Intradermal- Implanon- inserted under the skin of the upper arm, lasts for 3 years.

for starters other methods of birth control can be to smoke some good bud. Not only are you going to feel the urge to have amazing sex you will not gain weight... but maybe have a few exceptions of munchies

Ask your doctor which kinds of pills include weight gain as a side effect. Not all of them make you gain weight. Just do NOT get depo provera. I gained 17 pounds on that!!

I agree! The nuva-ring is great!

You really shouldn't be asking these questions on Cosmopolitan though, speak to your doctor a PROFESSIONAL, not random people. Or do the research yourself.

But to answer your question: "A 2000 British review article concluded there is no evidence that modern low-dose pills cause weight gain, but that fear of weight gain contributed to poor compliance in taking the Pill and subsequent unintended pregnancy, especially among adolescents."

Good Luck!
