I have both.

In my case, I prefer the woman I have now. She understands my concerns, as a woman and cosmetically.

Doesn't matter to me...my dentist just happens to be a hot guy...and strong *drool*..he gets the drilling done very efficiently, I must say.

I've never "experienced" a woman dentist! how funny...the women hygenists at our dentist's office are terrific! but, I happen to be quite fond of our current family dentist, he does a great job and we've gone to him for 20 years now...so, I guess it would feel "weird" to have a woman dentist.

If she was GOOD at what she does, and not taking her moods out on my mouth---then sure. I don't want some irratic PMS-mode woman with a drill anywhere near my teeth though!

When women are true healers---they are among THE BEST. But when women are negative bitches---quite frankly, they're every bit as horrible as the most violent and crude people on earth. Sorry gals---but you KNOW it's true!!!! (it takes one to know one! me! lol)

I have a female dentist, because not only of her skill at caring for my teeth, but her manners and gentleness as well....and she happens to be a friend of mine....

The gender of your dentist is irrelevant... Just as in any other profession, there are good female and male dentists and poor female and male dentists. One advantage of a female dentist is generally speaking, they tend to have more of an eye for cosmetic dentistry. I have been around both and I would not base my decision on a dentist on their gender, but their qualification and reputation.

I've never been to a female dentist, but all the hygienists were women, and they were very knowledgeable and professional at what they did.

I would much rather go to a female because she has smaller hands and makes it easier for her to maneuver around in my mouth...plus she seems more sympathetic about my 'fear' of dentists...:D

I wouldn't care either way. What does gender have to do with the quality of the dentist's work or capability?
It would be like picking a president just because he's a certain race rather than his experience and ability to govern a nation!!

i have a male, and i don't mind having a male dentist. a female may have smaller hands, but normally they don't have to fit their whole hand into your mouth - that's why they have tools as well - so it really shouldn't matter about the gender of your dentist.

I am a female Dentist and married to a male Dentist.
I personally wouldn't care as long as they are good and they are ethical.
But as far as Cosmetic goes, I am much better than my husband. Most of the men Dentists that I know have a problem with picking the right shade. Most of them don't have that passion for beauty and the instinct about what a beautiful smile should be.(I said most, I don't like to generalize)
But as far as surgery goes, My husband is a lot better.

Ok, what am I missing here? Why would it matter? They do the same job, get the same education and most likely have the same office structure. I don't spend that much time with dentists, nor do many other people, that it would matter.

I would rather go to a female dentist. I believe she would be more in touch with my emotional needs while tending to my teeth. I have a mortal- white knuckle- fear of dentists and would be more at ease with a matronly, motherly dentist. I am not sure how Freudian this answer could actually be- but my dentist growing up was a cigarette hanging wwII paratrooper field dentist. ( and yes- his cigarette hung over my young face while he rooted around in my mouth ! )

It depends some you get which can be quite nasty and some which are nice and understanding. I've met some dentists which I didn't like in the past as they didn't seem to understand people who have a fear of going to the dentist. I currently have a female dentist and she's fantastic she understands nervous patients and at least she trys to make me laugh which helps. Considering I had a massive fear of dentists she really helps and I have a lot of trust in her but it depends on what dentist really suits you.
