What is a good topic for a science project?

My daughter has a science project to do at school. I have never done one...does any one have any ideas on what it can be about.

Please keep it simple and fun

Thank in advance.....(she's in second grade)

A simple one would be to grow bean seeds (I think a lot of us did this back in elementary school).
But you have to add a 'twist' for it to be a science project, so how about, you grow the bean in water that has been colored with drops of food coloring ... one small dish of clear water containing 3 seeds, one with blue-colored water containing 3 seeds, one with yellow, and one with red.

The question to answer by way of the experiment would be, will the color of water affect the color of the bean plant that grows from the seed?

Let her plant something quick growing and watch it sprout and grow.

We did one with house plants. Its easy & cheap :). Just get 5 identical type & size plants. Give 1 of the plants water, plant food, oxygen & sunlight, everything it needs to thrive. Then with the rest of them, eliminate 1 thing (ie water, sunlight, etc.) from each plant and the last one, give nothing it needs to survive. We did this over a 14 day period and we recorded the changes after 7 days then at the end. Viola! A science project! It was really a fun thing for my son & I to do together!
PS "We" got an A!

How about taking white flowers and putting dye in the water to show how plants pull water from the ground to grow. All the veins in the white peddles will turn the color of the water.
