Other than those with childhood diabetes, how did you find out you had it?Other than those with childhood diabetes, how did you find out you had it? Did you have certain symptoms, did your doctor advise you, or something else? How are you doing with it?

My dad and late bro-in-law didn't have any symptoms, they found out by going to the dr for the yearly exam. My bro-in-law got it from being a drug addict and drunk for years, my dad got it from being old, a former alcoholic and having a sweet tooth, at least that is what that the dr's surmised. My friends 12 year old daughter is obese and is borderline diabetic, she got diagnosed because when she went for her physical the dr was concerned and did the test and told him to get her wieght in check and change her diet otherwise she will have diabetes before she is 14.

Diabetes (both type 1 and 2) is just one of a myriad of diseases that scientists and doctors have linked to Vit D deficiency... I don't have diabetes but have read extensively about it in scientific and medical articles. Have your relative ask his doctor for a Vit D blood test to see if he is low and needs to be on Vit D supplements. Actually everyone should have this simple blood test as a deficiency is easy to remedy and it would help prevent disease...
