Tax Question

The guy I worked for this past year has paid me cash money, no checks, no taxes. The tax season will be coming up and I have no idea how to file my taxes. I have gone through my saving account, but I usually get $2500 in earned income as a single parent. How will this work with no w2's, and no real record of exactly how much I have made all year?

Go on-line to the IRS and see what you can find. Then call the 800 number and talk to a representative. They are usually very helpful at answering questions, and they don't care what your name is when you ask. You really have to keep your own records when you receive cash.

As him for a Form 1099-MISC. It's like the Independent Contractors version of a W-2. Depending on how much you earned though be prepared for a hard-hit on your taxes as you may have to pay self-employment tax .... not fun.

Depends if he's going to report the money he gave you to the IRS on a 1099 -- or if it was purely "under the table". Huge difference. Ask him today and then I can tell you what you're up against.

I would ask him if he is going to give you a 1099 at the end of the year....this could be a problem for you if not.....

You will have to file without w2's if you don't have any and explain to the Government how you earned money.

Sounds like you have limited tax liability anyway and may not be required to file. Check the IRS website for the filing threshold. Without W-2s you become self-employed. Without 1099's just do the best you can from memory, file short form and take standard deduction. You'll likely come out not owing. But check to see if you need to file first.
