Even "The Donald" Failed The First Few Times
Even "The Donald" Failed The First Few Times / Career / 6:29 PM - Tuesday May 13, 2008
A Career Woman (Female, 36-45, Who Cares?) asked:

How much would you risk in order to have the career of your dreams? And if you are that kind of risk taker how many times would you keep on trying if it didn't fully work out the way you had hoped?

Some very successful people had many failures racked up before arriving at the big time.

It is true. Some people keep trying. I think you have to know yourself, and see how comfortable you are with risk, failure, and the results of trying and suceeeding.

I will admit I am not that much of a risk taker, and don't have much of career dreams. I always wanted to be an engineer, I am, and I work at it. I never wanted to run the company. So, I have been pretty much an opportunist. I take what looks interesting to me at the time.

But if a person has a dream, I think that they should give it a shot. The best shot that they can. Not some half hearted attempt at making it work, but a go for broke, give it hell attempt. But if it didn't work out, I would know that I had tried my hardest and it probably wasn't the world beating idea that I thought it was. And move on.

That is not to say that I wouldn't try again with a new idea, but I don't think I would keep flogging the dead horse.

Good luck

If i were to work in a career field I enjoy, I would be borderline homeless. You have to have money....there in lies the dilemma.

I guess the key to your question, for me anyway would be to first decide what is the career of my dreams.
It is true that many sucessfull people are that way not because they are lucky but because they have tried and failed. learned from thier failure and tried again.
I am not a big risk taker so I think that if I were in my chosen field and doing moderatly well I would be happy with that.

It all comes down to how much you want it. If the dream is strong enough than I would risk everything.
