I just read a book by Ayaan Hirsi Ali called "Infidel", which is a very powerful book. It's about her life growing up in Somalia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, etc., then immigrating to Holland. I found it fascinating because it gave me an insight into a totally foreign culture.

Another book I recently read, which is fiction, but I thought was very interesting, was "Noble House" by James Clavell.

If you love animals, "The Parrot's Lament" by Eugene Linden is very interesting, and it's non-fiction. My husband and I went to hear him speak a few years ago, he is a very entertaining speaker, and many of the stories in the book are wonderful.

I'm reading The Colour Purple at the mo. It's total feminist stuff but it's a classic. I think thats where Fay Weldon got her inspiration for The life & Loves of A She Devil-both are movies. for non-fiction that includes biography just take your pick from current best sellers or people that inspire you, they come ready-approved.

From one dedicated bookwork to another...

1. "The Crossing" by Cormac McCarthy

2. "Bood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy

He's simply one of the most powerful writers alive.

3. "On Chesil Beach" by Ian McEwan

4. "Fallen" by David Maine

5. "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher

All five (5) are tremendous reads. Enjoy

I'm kind of on the other end of the spectrum, I mostly read fiction. Right now I'm reading The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, it's a sci-fi but it has a deeper meaning to it, it's not Star Wars or anything. As for non-fiction, have you ever read Memoirs of a Geisha? A lot of people have already read it, it's very popular, but if you haven't it's a really good read.
