How do you choose, weather to use tampons or pads?

Then once you have your choice, of the above, how do you choose which brand and options to get?

Do you go on mom's advice or a friend's, Trial & error, discounts or cost? does it really matter in the end?

Seems there are more options when buying tampons & pads than there are when buying a new car.

I would say that depends on age. A young girl would not use tampons, it would be uncomfortable. Girls usually get a little bit older - maybe 15 or 16, before they try tampons. Usually at that point a friend will steer them into that, or they will decide they are ready for it themselves.
The brand of pads doesn't really matter. What you want to look for is quality - ie: not the store brand - you don't want to cheap out, because you don't want leakage - embarresing!! The type with wings - I think they are Always, but I am sure there are others, are good. That keeps the blood from pooling off of the pad - sorry to be kind of gross, but...
The pads are also labelled, some are light, medium, heavy, overnight. A girl just getting her period probably is going to be ok with light or medium, but she will have to expirement to see how heavy her flow is.
I felt uncomfortable talking to my mom, now a days she could look on the internet and probably find a kid friendly site. Or better yet a grown up could, to help find something appropriate.

I wore pads until I was like 17 - after I had sex and then I've wore tampons ever since. I usually buy the store brand - mostly walmart. They're all the same.
