Best friends
Best friends / Friendship / 4:05 PM - Saturday February 24, 2007
(Male, 22-25) asked:

Are best friends always reciprocated? I mean, if you consider "Fred" your best friend, does that mean "Fred" considers you their best friend?

Isn't it possible to have a best friend who considers someone other than you their best friend?

A best friend is someone who you consider to be someone you trust more than anyone else at a given time.

The reason someone wants you to reciprocate their "best friendshipness" is they want to know you trust in them as much. They want to feel like you share what they share with you.

I have had multiple best friends at any given time even. The point is, don't put all your emphasis on a 'word'. Your friendship can't be defined by a word. Stress less about "best friend" and go and have some fun. Isn't that what friends do?

btw. My name is Fred. is there something I should know? :P

Of course it's possible. Someone can be YOUR best friend but also consider someone else their best friend, because they have a lot of friends. Happens all the time.

No, I once had a friend who introduced me as his best friend and I didn't have the same intent for us. He is nice, but not my best friend.
