we have a question about birth control here at work. us guys are having an arguement about birth control. i don't know how it got started...but here goes...

does birth control prevent conception? or does conception happen, and then the birth control go to work?

The pill prevents conception from happening. What happens, is the pill acts like a false pregnancy. The hormones in the pill tells the body it is pregnant, so the egg does not ovulate, and so very little chance of getting pregnant. The only pill that stops a pregnancy after conception is the morning after pill.

If you're referring to the pill, it prevents conception by stopping ovulation. If there is no egg released every month, you can not get pregnant.

Birth control prevents conception from occurring. That is why it is a form of 'contraception', or the prevention of conception.

Birth Control pills and devices prevent conception.

The "morning after pill" is what "goes to work" so to speak.

Birth Control (the pill at least, because I have no knowledge of the patch or other forms of BC), prevents conception. A lot of religious fanatics will tell you that birth control is no better than abortion because it murders infants, but it's just not true. You're not "getting rid" of a pregnancy by using birth control, you're preventing it from happening. I'd explain it further, but it looks like one of your other respondents did a fine job. :)

All I am gonna say is this.....If you do NOT know about birth control and conception then you should NOT be having SEX....
This is a No Brainer.........Sorry for being So Blunt !!!!!!

Birth control prevents conception, yes. Plan B (the morning after pill) stops the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine lining.
