A Thinker (Female, 22-25) asked:

Are you focused on your career: career development, career management, and early retirement?

I need help in getting my career started so I'd appreciate ANY advice you guys might have in regards to planning, developing, maintaining your careers, or even planning for retirement.

I just need help seeing the big picture and getting some motivation.

It's all about forming mutually beneficial relationships. There are lots of good books you can read. Learn to be a leader. Stay focused on development and relationship buildnig at your job, and stay in school. Continuing education is important to success. When you stop learning you start losing. If you're interested in a recommended reading list email me and I'll send you one.

Follow my list darlin' and you will be surprised how well it works:

1. Decide what you want to do career wise.

2. Find a mentor in that field. All "experts" love to be asked for their advice so don't be shy about asking.

3. Never be afraid to take on the complex assignment and give it your best.

4. Don't be a clock watcher

5. Follow up- always return your phone calls and answer your e-mails

6. Put something into your retirement every month no matter how small the amount. You are young and you will be surprised how much it will grow with time.

7. And most important...even though things go wrong at times and you are so pissed off you can hardly stand it...don't ever, ever, be a negative person in you work place..it is suicide!!

I've been a manager for many, many years and if you follow these simple rules you will succeed. Guaranteed. My best to you as you move forward!!

Lighten up. You're way to serious minded to have any fun in life. That's the key to happiness by the way figuring out what it is that makes you happy and then getting to make a living doing that. Think about it.
